NASHVILLE — Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart said on Monday morning with local media at SEC Media Days that safety Smoke Bouie is not with the team anymore.

Per the back-to-back national championship-winning coach, Bouie hasn’t been with the team for a while. It was rumored back in the summer that Bouie wasn’t with the team,

“Smoke is no longer with our team, it’s been that way for a while,” Smart said, via DawgNation.com. “We kind of mutually agreed to part ways and we wish him nothing but the best.”

Bouie spent his freshman season in 2022 at Texas A&M before transferring to Georgia back in the spring. He participated in spring camp and played in the annual G-Day scrimmage.

Smart was disappointed in the outcome as he and Bouie are from the same town in Georgia.

"It’s disappointing his stay was short, but it was a decision that was made by both parties,” he said. “We wish him nothing but the best. He's from the same hometown that I’m from, and I know a lot of people back there, but it was the decision that was made."

While Bouie was with the Aggies in 2022, he missed a few games after being suspended for a violation of team rules. He transferred to Georgia right after last season.

Bouie was originally a Georgia commit but flipped to Texas A&M. While in College Station, the Bainbridge, Ga. native made friends with Aggies’ wide receiver Ainias Smith.

Smith met with reporters on Monday - before Smart’s comments — and hyped him up.

“Smoke was a dog. He came with that enthusiasm each and every day, and he was just eager to compete,” he. said. “He was a tough competitor. He would never back down from a challenge.”

Despite Bouie’s exit, Georgia’s defensive backfield is still very talented and deep. He was expected to play safety, but the Bulldogs still return Malaki Starks and Dan Jackson.

According to Radi Nabulsi of UGASports.com, Bouie wasn’t with the team last week.
