Georgia head coach Kirby Smart extended a scholarship offer to Drew Bobo on Tuesday.
Drew is the son of Mike Bobo, who played quarterback at Georgia in the mid-1990s and was a part of Mark Richt’s staff from 2001-2014.
“After a great camp I’m thankful to say I’ve earned an offer from The University of Georgia,” Bobo said in a tweet.

Bobo is currently heading into his senior year at the Hammond School in Columbia, South Carolina. He plays on the offensive line for the Skyhawks, who went 10-3 during the 2020 season.
At 6-foot-5, 280-pounds, Bobo is currently a three-star prospect, per the 247Sports Composite. He currently has other offers from Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Virginia, Coastal Carolina, Maryland, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Bobo has interest from Auburn, where his dad is now the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, although he hasn’t officially been extended a scholarship offer to play on the plains.
His father served as the offensive coordinator at South Carolina starting in 2020 and was promoted to interim head coach after Will Muschamp was relieved of his duties. Prior to that, Mike was the head coach at Colorado State from 2015-2019 where he went 28-35 overall. He served as Georgia’s quarterback coach from 2001-2006, then took over as offensive coordinator from 2007-2015.
Both Mike Bobo and Smart were teammates at UGA and started their coaching careers in Athens in the early 2000s. The pair still remain close and stay in close contact with one another. Bobo and Smart even competed against each other last season when Georgia played South Carolina in Columbia. Despite the Bulldogs’ lop-sided victory over the Gamecocks, Smart still has a lot of respect for his former teammate and current colleague.
Smart said before the matchup that the two families have coaching in their blood.
“Obviously, you grow up around it,” Smart said about his career, per Bulldawg Illustrated. “It’s in your DNA. Every coach doesn’t want his son to be a coach, he wants him to be something better—then they end up being a coach anyway because that’s all they have grown up around. My dad never discouraged me from coaching, but he never encouraged it either. Mike’s [Bobo] dad would probably say the same thing. When you see it in your parents like it was in our two dads who grew up—Highway 84, south Georgia football, a lot of great matchups, and Friday night being the most important thing in the town—it’s just kind of in your DNA. So, it was that way for both of us, and we are both competitive people because of our parents.”
The relationship between Smart and Bobo might sway Drew enough to commit to UGA.
