Recruiting: Georgia lands 4-star DL Jamaal Jarret
Grimsley High School (NC.) defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett draws a lot of comparisons to former Georgia standout and current Philadelphia Eagle nose tackle Jordan Davis. The four-star defender now has an opportunity to follow in Davis’ large footsteps after committing to the Bulldogs on Tuesday over both North Carolina and Auburn.
Jarrett’s relationship with defensive line coach Tray Scott was the main reason he chose Georgia.
"I just love the coaching staff," Jarrett told 247Sports. "Tray Scott has been my lead recruiter and it has been awesome. The relationship they built with my family is top tier. As far as the development part, I know they will make me the best player I can be."
Jarrett is rated the nation’s No. 180 overall player, No. 25 defensive lineman and No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

The 6-foot-6, 340-pound defender racked up 30 total tackles and 9.0 tackles for loss as a junior at Grimsley, per MaxPreps. He also forced a fumble and had one quarterback pressure in 2021.
Jarrett had offers from all over the nation but chose the Bulldogs because he liked how many prospects they recently put into the NFL. His offer from UGA came on May 21, 2021.
The Greensboro, N.C. native took an unofficial visit to Athens in January and an official over the second weekend of June, which ultimately helped him be a lock for head coach Kirby Smart.
Regardless, Jarrett said his connection with Scott was what sold him the most out of everything.
"He keeps it real and he has a lot to relate to you," Jarrett told Brian Dohn of 247Sports. "He talks to me about school and life, and then he talks to me about football. It's not like you are waking up and he talks about football 24/7. He wants to be a football coach, but he's a life coach as well. He talks to me about everything besides football."
Jarrett is Georgia’s 15 pledge in its 2023 recruiting haul. He joins three-star Seven Cloud and four-star Gabriel Harris so far as the only other defensive linemen in the Bulldogs’ current class. They will hope to add a few more before this recruiting rotation is done
In Georgia’s class of 2022, Scott signed rising UGA freshmen Bear Alexander, Shone Washington and Christen Miller. Previously, he got signatures from Jalen Carter, Warren Brinson, Nazir Stackhouse, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins and Johnathan Jefferson.
