Georgia signs three-star LB EJ Lightsey

Georgia added another linebacker to its class 2022 recruiting class as EJ Lightsey committed and signed on Tuesday.
Lightsey was once committed to Florida; however, he backed off his pledge in December and chose to sign with the University of Georgia on National Signing Day.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender chose the Bulldogs over a few other schools, including Florida, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Arizona State, among others.
Lightsey is ranked the nation’s No. 494 overall recruit, No. 49 linebacker and No. 48 prospect in Georgia.
The Fitzgerald, Ga. native racked up a ton of accolades following his senior campaign. He was named Peach State’s Class AA Defensive Player of The Year by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Lightsey was also a MaxPreps Small Town All-America Football first-team selection.
Lightsey was a two-way player for Fitzgerald, which went 13-2 en route to becoming the GHSA Class 2A state champions. In December, he participated in the GACA All-Star Classic. During his senior campaign, Lightsey racked 75 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles and three recoveries for the Purple Hurricane.
DawgWatch witnessed Lightsey play Putnam County in the Class 2A Elite Eight. He totaled five tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery against the War Eagles. Lightsey kept Putnam County’s Cedrion Brundage, who recently signed a letter of intent to UGA as a preferred walk-on, in check all night in that matchup.
He possesses the physical frame of an inside linebacker, but while at Georgia, he will likely add weight. DawgWatch could see Lightsey playing both positions and possibly lining up as an edge rusher. Lightsey could find himself on special teams early in his career at UGA, which could give him a chance to earn playing time down the road as a Bulldog.
