Georgia Men's Basketball: Hoop Dogs to play in Sunshine Slam tournament

ATHENS, Ga. — The first season of the Mike White era will include Georgia taking part in the 2022 Sunshine Slam during Thanksgiving week.
The Bulldogs will play in the event’s “Beach Bracket” along with UAB, South Florida and Saint Joseph’s on Nov. 21-22 at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center. The event will also include an “Ocean Bracket” featuring Albany, Austin Peay, Bucknell and Presbyterian.
Both brackets will operate as separate tournaments with the semifinals being played on Monday, Nov. 21. The championships and consolation games will be played on the following day. Each day will feature two-afternoon games and two evening contests. The different game times and matchups will be announced at a later date closer to the tournament.
Georgia had one of its worst records in program history during the 2021-22 season under the direction of former coach Tom Crean. White was hired last March following Crean’s departure. The Bulldogs have recently had a mass exodus of players hit the transfer portal, so there are only four scholarship athletes remaining from last year’s squad.
