Early Signing Day: 4-star CB Daniels Harris commits to UGA
Daniel Harris has once again committed to Georgia, but he signed his letter of intent this time.
So, it’s official. The 4-star cornerback from Gulliver Prep School in Miami, Fl., is a Bulldog. Harris chose Georgia over the Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday morning.
Harris originally committed to the Bulldogs on June 1. However, he de-committed on November 14, although his relationship with UGA defensive backs coach Fran Brown made a difference. The two developed a bond and the first-year position coach landed Harris.
Harris is rated the nation’s No. 153 overall prospect and the No. 17 cornerback in the class of 2023. He is also touted as the No. 36 player in Florida, per the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound athlete also runs track at Gulliver Prep. He posted a high in the 100-meter dash of 10.74 seconds, and he also runs a 21.61 mark in the 200-meter dash.
Scouting Report:
A developmental cornerback prospect with the tools and traits that NFL front offices covet these days. Measured in at just under 6-foot-2, 180 pounds spring before the senior season. More importantly, came in with a 78-inch wingspan. Also has a 10.74 in the 100-meter dash to boost. Still figuring things out as an outside corner, but has progressed immensely from a technical standpoint since he first emerged on the national recruiting scene as a thin, wiry freshman. Has experience working in both man and off-man coverage. At his best when he can simply stick his hip on a wide receiver and run with them down the sidelines. Does a nice job of tracking the football through the air and understands how to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. Not afraid to lower his helmet and hit someone, but must improve as an open-field tackler, especially if he hopes to take down college-sized running backs and tight ends in the open field. Must also add some functional strength if he’s going to be asked to press on Saturdays. Should be viewed as a high-upside project that will need some time to mature on a college roster before he’s ready to make an impact at college football’s highest levels. Likely to find the most success in an aggressive defensive scheme that wants its cornerbacks to bump and run out on the perimeter. A rare height/speed combo could have him playing on Sundays one day. — Andrew Ivins of 247Sports
